New Year Ideas 🎉
Whether you've spent the festive period here in sunny Singapore or travelled 'home' to visit friends and family, we hope you've had a wonderful Christmas. It’s time for the elves to go back to the North Pole (thank God) and for us to stop making excuses to buy overpriced chocolate every time we pop to the supermarket.
Are you lacking inspiration on how to celebrate new year? This might be your first new year in Singapore or are you seeing in 2019 as a first time parent? Whatever you're planning to do, it's unlikely that you’ll be spending Monday night partying until 5am like the good old days. We have kids and they need entertaining!
Thankfully, here at NMSG, we've rallied to share a few of our New Year's suggestions so you can celebrate and keep your little ones busy.
Lianne, our Communications Coordinator suggests getting creative and filling a jar with 2019 bucket list ideas. Is there a place that you've never visited in Singapore or an activity that you haven't got around to doing? How about a restaurant that you'd love to try? Write to down and pop it in the jar then start as you mean to go on by trying something on New Year's Day. It can be filled with activities for all the family.
Amanda, our Co Chair suggests managing the kids and the potential hangover by having a duvet day at home and indulging in some family friendly Netflix in your pyjamas. The perfect plan if you had a busy Christmas. If you haven't already watched these classics then give Arthur Christmas, Beauty and the Beast, Tangled and Angela's Christmas a go before the decorations come down and the festive season really is over.
Liz, our Co Chair suggests making New Year's Eve as special as possible if you aren't able to go out due to lack of babysitting. Liz says 'our helper is at home for Christmas this year so we will be trying to make Monday as fun as possible without going out in the evening. During the day, we'll take the kids to see the crib at the Church of the Good Shepherd. Even though we’re not particularly religious, it’s an interesting and unique place to visit. The crib took nine years to make and the detail is incredible. My son loves it! Following that we'll grab lunch at Din Tai Fung at nearby Raffles City and then visit Huber's which is an excellent Swiss butchery at Dempsey Hill. It's pricey but the only place to go if you want to buy some delicious and good quality meat. Bonus, there's an outdoor playground so the kids can burn off some energy before heading home. Once the they're in bed, we'll have a posh BBQ and toast the new year with some prosecco'.
If you’re in the mood for a little culture and are willing to keep the kids up a bit later as a treat, the galleries at The National Gallery and Asian Civilisations Museum are free after 5pm on New Year’s Eve. The Civic District will be car free from 5pm too with outdoor movie screenings, salsa dancing, a bazaar and bouncy castles at Esplanade Park. On Tuesday, The Philatelic Museum is holding an Open House on New Year’s Day and entry is free.
